On behalf of the Local Governing Body I would like to welcome to Parkside Community College, which for many years has been devoted to the education of young people living n Cambridge ages 11 to 16, and more recently has embraced the challenge of opening a Sixth Form distinguished by offering the International Baccalaureate, a prestigious but demanding program.
The Local Governing Body is comprised of parents, staff and community governors, and is concerned with supporting and challenging the Headteacher and the staff in the valuable task of bringing the best possible education to our students. We are aware that this can be challenging, as the resources available to the school are often limited and our ambitions large. For this reason, we work together with the Multi-Academy Trust of which we are part in order to ensure that resources are spent in the most effective way possible, always bearing in mind that this is a community college with its own vision and values.
We are particularly keen to preserve the Parkside´s character as a small, human scale school where people – students and staff – can feel valued and respected as individuals, whatever their background. In the last few years we have been blessed with excellent GCSE results, well above the national average, and also a very positive curve at the IB, which is a very demanding program. Nevertheless, we are not complacent about this, as we realise that each child matters, and that education is more than doing well in exams, as it involves the whole person. For this reason, we are most proud of what the school has been achieving in term of helping disadvantaged students, and addressing the needs of all levels of learning, with a clear focus in quality of teaching. Our aim is to promote excellence and aspiration for everybody, and we can only do so with the active participation of all concerned – the management, the staff, the pupils and, last but not least, their families.
