Protocol for Early GCSE Entries
Parkside Federation Academies schools enter all students for GCSEs in Year 11. This includes GCSEs where the student may already speak a foreign language at home, such as French, German and Polish.
The reasons for this practice are:
- Research suggests students do better when they are entered for examinations in Year 11, compared with early entry.
- Early entry imposes an administrative burden on the school – it is easiest if all GCSE entries for students in a year group happen in Year 11.
The exception to this is where a family chooses to pay for the early entry – in these circumstances, the school will allow the early entry. However, it is not recommended.
Families wishing to pay for early entry for a language exam should contact the head of the International Education and Communication (Languages) Department at the school.
