The magnificent school we now have at Trumpington Community College represents the end of a long but exciting and unique journey for us as governors.
The need for a secondary school in the Trumpington area had long been identified and in 2007 all schools in Cambridgeshire were invited to make
a bid for the contract to build it. Parkside Federation, with its excellent academic record and ethos, won the bid.
The governing body has been involved and kept updated at every stage of the process, from the initial plans of the building (taking us to other schools both within and outside the UK to get inspiration from other progressive schools) to careful deliberation of the values and ethos that we want for our students.
As with everything in life, things have not always gone to plan, for example the building not quite ready for our first intake of Year 7 students, but even this has been turned into a positive outcome, both by the strong and dedicated team of staff we are lucky enough to have supporting us and also by the students who have had a unique chance to experience at first hand being part of the Parkside family and ethos. These students have been well equipped to take back this experience now they are in Year 8 and to be able to pass on what they have learnt to the current Year 7 students.
I feel very proud to be Chair of such a great school and would like to congratulate the effort and commitment shown by everyone involved. We have an excellent and caring Head of School in John Jones and the experience and expertise of its Executive Principal in Andrew Hutchinson. I would also like to thank the parents and students for their continued support and I look forward to meeting them in the near future as we continue to consolidate our successful start throughout the next few years.
